vegan motzerella sucks

well, I guess it’s official. I’ll never eat cheese pizza again for the rest of my stupid lame vegan life.

I bought some vegan ‘motzerella’ cheese and some vegan pizza crust and some vegan pizza sauce (although, I’m not sure there’s such a thing as non-vegan pizza sauce, but whatever) and i mixed it all together, put it in the oven at 450 degrees for 10 min and waited.

but the cheese “cheese” didn’t melt. at. all. and it kind of just looked like pieces of white plastic on top of the pizza. and i did bring my self to take one bite. but then that bite was AWFUL, so i threw the entire thing in the garbage.

and ate a humus sandwich with tomatoes on organic bread. with organic pretzels. and water.

maybe i’ll get to eat some cheese pizza in heaven. or my next life — depending on which religion turns out to be right.

  1. U r Close!
Try the RICE cheese mozzarella and mix with the Rice Pepper jack! You are close! The trick is to add more spice and veggies. Soy cheese sometimes is not that flavorful. The trick is basil!!!

  2. You know, I looked into rice cheese, but all of them had milk protein in them — which kind of doesn’t go with the whole ‘vegan’ thing. Are there vegan rice cheeses?

  3. I remember a long time ago hearing about a casein-free rice cheese that Galaxy was supposed to be coming out with. I kept checking and never saw it, then after a while I just stopped looking. Time to look again!
Crystalsuelindell, does your market sell “Follow Your Heart – Vegan Gourmet” soy cheese? FOOD TRANCE is right, vegan pizza is best with lots of vegetables and food spices like fresh basil.

  4. Don’t give up! First of all, cheeseless pizza can be great; I like mine of a whole wheat crust with sauteed spinach, mushrooms, garlic and broccoli. You can get creative with the toppings too(Italians eat cheeseless pizzas made with potatoes and rosemary, or try a Thai pizza with peanuts, or a Hawaiian with pineapple and smoked tofu, etc.) you could try some homemade cheese made out of cashews or tofu (Veganomicon has good recipes for these) for a ricotta-style “cheese” or, if you really do wanna go with the commercial vegan cheeses, you really ought to order some Cheezly or Teese from veganessentials.com. Follow your heart i sdecent, though I like to melr it in a pan and pour it own my pizza and *then* pop the pizza in the oven. Try a blend of the mozzerella with cheddar and or the jack. Really though, Cheezly is the best stuff out there. You can sit there and just eat it straight.
